  46. Yes, but at a mere 18,000 pounds not many can afford such a car. Practically, I
  47. found the Cavallier reasonable RF quiet. Fiat Uno, too noisy. Diesels are
  48. definately better, they have a bigger battery too.

  102.   Take a screwdriver and open the unit up. Look at the connector. One side
  103.   goes to ground. One side goes to an on-off switch.

  105.   Use an ohm-meter to verify which part of the connector goes to where.

  122.    Vince, you are jumping in the deep end !

  125.     Could I suggest that you do not buy an expensive radio until after
  126. you have gained some experience with a cheap one, formed your own
  127. opinions, and found out what your interests are likely to be.
  128.  
  129.     I advise buying an old but functioning radio as a learning exercise.
  130. These things have done most of their depreciation, so when you have
  131. found what you hate and what you like about it, you can sell it and get
  132. almost all of your money back allowing you to go out and buy a radio
  133. that will accurately fit your needs.
  134.  
  135.     The TS50 is an interesting radio. It has been carefully optimised
  136. for use in modern cars, and the controls seem well designed to make
  137. mobile use much easier than with anything else. BUT a number of
  138. sacrifices were made to fit it in that small box. This radio is OK used
  139. with typically inefficient mobile antennae, but suffers overload if used
  140. with the kinds of antennae that you would likely erect at home. These
  141. radios are new on the market, have excited many people and so fetch very
  142. high prices new. You would suffer a lot of financial loss if you bought
  143. one and then decided to change. 
  144.  
  145.     Different people may be enthusiasts for different brands and may
  146. absolutely hate others, but look at the IC735 which has got a reputation
  147. for good performance and also the FT890, FT990.  No manufacturer is
  148. perfect, all have produced radios that proved to be junk.
  149.  
  150.      The TS140, TS680, and TS440 that I've had on the spectrum analyser
  151. in my shack were not as clean on transmit as I would like, I think one
  152. of the mixers in the TX path is run at too high a level in order to 
  153. economise on amplifiers later in the path.
